Rollersnakes

Sir Hiss and Wheelz met many years ago and instantly fell in love. Using that love, and their passion for music, they combined powers with the most important, yet most forgotten principle of rock composition: Primitive Rock n’ Roll. No frills, no brain melting solos, no showing off. Just pure, simple, primal, rock n’ roll.

Scorch The Fallen

Out of Boise, Idaho are five headstrong-dedicated musicians with only one thing screaming out of their heads, fucking metal. Originally formed in 2010 with four members that quickly evolved into the band they are today with five, they continue to evolve as musicians and collaborate on the writing process to bring disaster to your neighborhood. They bring music that has the structural influences of All Shall Perish, Thy Art is Murder, and Lamb of God. They bring riffing back like Lamb of God and Pantera, bass heavy riffs like Beyond Creation, Tool, and Abiotic. The ivories heavily influenced by Winds of Plague, The Browning, and Born of Osiris. And the Vocals are what make this project sound apart from the rest.
Currently we have Shawn Gilbert on Vocals, Kevin Overton on Guitar, Krystle Cabeltera on Keys, Stefan Henshaw on Bass, and Kyle Jellerson on drums. Each musician brings their own influences to the table and as a whole are able to create the disasterpiece they’ve sought out from early in each of their individual careers as musicians. They bring gut wrenching breakdowns with dual riffing on the bass and guitar, to the melodic finger-dancing from the keys player to bring some depth to the bass and guitar. Then there are the drums, technical at best and tasteful at the same time to bring out the punchiness of every transition and emphasize the progressive structure of each piece. Lastly, the vocals top it off with influences of deathcore and punk to bring the edge, to show how pissed off they really are, and to bring that to their audience in a less than classy fashion.

The 504 Plan

The 504 Plan plays unique, often heavy, covers of everything from Bob Dylan to Adele, driven by guitars and harmonicas. For the better part of a decade, the band has played family friendly regional outdoor festivals and town events (Eagle Fun Days, Downtown Nampa Nights, Payette Apple Blossom Festival, etc) as well as weddings and parties and the local club circuit. Not a blues band. Not a pop band. Not 80’s band. Simply good music from the inception of rock and roll to the present. While you’re at it, throw into the mix a batch of originals that sound like The Bare Naked Ladies making babies with The Violent Femmes, and you have The 504 Plan.

The Codlands

The Codlands add experimental quirks to otherwise familiar indie-punk song structures , which makes this band one of the more creative, yet truly listenable acts in the Boise area. The mostly-original set from this power trio features a singing drummer, occasional sound effects and miscellany, and what listeners describe as a very “tight” and “polished” sound. Bass player, Marc Dhoore, drummer, Leif Nelson, and guitarist, Tom Hillard, all met as colleagues at Boise State University.

The Hand

The Hand was formed in 1999 when Darin Dodd (The Executioners, Knucklehead) and Scott Schmaljohn (State of Confusion, The Treepeople, Stuntman, The Treatment) returned home from Seattle to team up to create a loud, stripped down three piece rock unit. After many shows and a short tour with Built to Spill, The Hand turned to Andy A. of Project Seven Studio to lay down the tracks and give it the beef it needed to create “What doesn’t Kill You (Tries Again).” Scott says “We are super stoked about getting this disc out, and look forward to touring and playing to support the record.”

The Hand’s sound influences range from Black Sabbath to Black Flag, The Clash, The Ramones, Nirvana, The Who, and many more.

The JoyKills

It was Nietzsche who wrote, “You must have chaos within you to give birth to a dancing star.” The Joy Kills are, arguably, the most chaotic, wildest, and insanely brilliant band from the garage-punk scene in a long, long time. Hailing from the filthy underbelly of Hate-City – Atlanta, Georgia, this four-piece is the right band to listen to during the apocalypse, or to pep up the daily humdrum of life. To the listener, the band strikes a balance of radically aggressive, noise wave tunes that merge with haunting, catchy melodies that keep the engine hot from beginning to end.
Their live shows are described as “pure electricity.” There is seldom a sparse moment during their set, and, when the mood mellows, it’s just long enough to recapture the audiences’ undivided attention with intimate lyrics, or an irreverent sense of humor. Lead singer, Eric Haugh, brings charismatic gravitas that so many bands lack. The microphone is his instrument, allowing him to venture beyond the bounds of the stage and enter the intimate space of the audience. An approach that creates an atmosphere of unpredictability as pounding rhythms and gnarled guitars push the listener to cut loose.
Breaking through the pop veneer surface of the mainstream isn’t common for rock bands these days, but The Joy Kills have a lot of promise. Despite their punk attitude, there’s certainly an element of accessibility to their sound that attracts a diverse fan base. Their latest album is scheduled for release this Summer through local label Blood Drunk Records and will be spearheaded by a tour of the greater US. Keep your eyes peeled as a band destined for bigger things.

Workin’ On Fire

This teen (12th-Graders) alternative rock, power trio, played their first gig August 1, 2009 at The Venue. Since then they’ve recorded three CDs (EP: Exit; LP/Album: Mike Smith; LP/Album: Metaphoria). With over 150 gigs together (including in Portland, OR, and Seattle, WA) this 2011 Boise’s Got Talent Grand Champion has headlined at the CenturyLink Arena (formerly Qwest) and is a regular at the Knitting Factory Concert House. In the media they’ve been featured on TV: on Channel 7 (KTVB) and FOX 12 News; and in print in: the Idaho Statesman (front page; favorable M. Deeds CD review), the Ontario, Oregon Argus Observer (front page), the Emmett Messenger-Index (front page), and the Boise Weekly. Additionally, The X and The River radio stations have covered them. They have performed for one of their now raving fans, Chef Duff Goldman (Food Network: Ace of Cakes and Sugar High), played with All Time Low, and opened for Middle Class Rut.

AUSTIN WILLIAMSON: Band co-founder and the lead: guitarist, vocalist, and writer, Austin is a singer-songwriter whose passion since picking up the guitar (classically trained) at age six is music. One of the top all-around high school guitarists in the Pacific Northwest, Austin began being noticed at age 13, first for his guitar play when pulled on stage by Tommy Castro and Kenny Neal (BB King R&B Champ) and also that same year for recording a Dunlop Crybaby guitar foot pedal video demo in his bedroom and receiving hundreds of thousands of ‘hits’ on YouTube for its creativity. In 9th grade he won first prize in the ArtsWest Guitar-off (with a perfect score) and recorded his first original scratch-track that same year. A committed poet and lyricist, Austin is currently enrolled at the Berklee College of Music (Boston, MA), simultaneous to his high school studies.

ZACH BONAMINIO: Zach is a self-taught drummer and co-founder of Workin’ On Fire. A grade school friend of Austin’s, Zach is an avid biker, photographer and snowboarder (Bonaminio Sausage family). He is currently a music theory student, and many of the band’s photos are his handiwork. Zach is known to play gigs with a broken arm (broken from snowboarding, of course).

PETER MAGUIRE: Peter is a thoroughbred slap bassist who also contributes backing vocals for Workin’ On Fire. Known to tinker on the drums and keyboard, Peter is also the 2011 5A state track and field 110 hurdles State Champion (also a varsity letterman in soccer). Interestingly, Peter’s grandfather (Walt Maguire) was the E.V.P. for London Records, with his famed production including ‘Monster Mash’ and the signing of ZZ-Top.
